Self Improvement – The Things to Prevent

Published Categorized as Journal

It’s common to hear stories of individuals attending numerous courses, reading tons of self improvement books, and basically filling their brains with anything that may help them succeed and improve.  Continually engulfing oneself in personal development material can help keep the momentum of success and improvement.

And in the end, they do this all their lives without getting any of the success which was promised from the books/seminars/courses.

Here’s an example.  You purchase a book which promises it can teach you how to turn things around quickly when things aren’t going well.  You begin to think “Yeah, if I learn this stuff everything will be fine”.  So now you have some hope.  For the next 3 months you immerse yourself.  But nothing changed.  So you start until you see, feeling depressed again.  Then you feel great again, you are optimistic for the future.  But 6 months things are still the same.

Self Improvement

Though great as it is, there is always a risk of overdoing it.  Like everything else in life, balance is needed.   For every self improvement enthusiasts out there, there is the potential for falling into the trap of using self improvement to gain hope rather than actual results.

Because they wish to change facets of their lives and are unhappy, people turn to self improvement – since it promises of the potential for making changes.  However, this can become like a drug, like an addiction.

Without getting any and they do all their lives to this.

They continue to seek, and go on reading books, attending conferences if what they had learned didn’t bring enormous changes.
